I have a cold from hell with achy muscles, sore throat, chest, ears and sinuses that are about to kill me — and tomorrow I have an appointment with my physio to do a bike test. That’ll be fun. I doubt that he’ll want me to do much exercise with a fever. So hopefully at least the fever will be gone by tomorrow.
We’ll see how long it takes for Caleb to get this cold of mine. I think by tomorrow if he’s getting it. The incubation time seems to be two or three days.
University starts tomorrow and as a warm up I’ve been finishing up an assignment that just didn’t get done last semester. My mum has always had opinions about my study methods, but something that has been ongoing since I started school is that I have to learn how to cheat (and she is supposed to be lecturing ethics at the university where she works). When I write my assignments I want to have full control over my statements, I want to know that they are well grounded in the literature that I have been reading. I am a control freak. I can’t just grab a statement randomly and use it, I need to know that it isn’t further discussed somewhere else. It might take a little longer, but it also means that I’m doing pretty well in my studies.
I use Sitemeter. It’s an interesting little tool, I can see everyone who has visited my blog as a little dot on a world map. I can see that the majority of my visitors are from Sweden, U.K. and America. Sometimes I can figure out who those little dots represent, I’m fairly sure I know who telia.se from Borlänge is, and comhem.se from Falun as well. More often though I can’t figure out who is behind the little dots at all, but that’s okay too, it still is interesting to see the little dots on the map and realise that I have readers from every corner of the world.
When Caleb came home from America he came home with a quilt that his aunt had made for us. I call it a picnic quilt, but Caleb says it’s a camping quilt. That might be what they call it over in Utah, but we’ll most likely never use it for camping because that’s what sleeping bags are for. We will most certainly use it for picnics though, therefore I will stick to calling it a picnic quilt. It’s really quite comfortable and so far I’ve been using it in front of the TV. Our dog has also taken a liking to it and use it to sleep on (or under) whenever he can.
I was telling Caleb the other day that now we only need a few more quilts so that I can have one on the balcony, one in the lounge, and one in the office (I get cold when I sit in front of the computer).
Our balcony is turning out to be really cosy. The sofa came up this weekend with my parents and it looks great out there. I have plenty of cushions that I have to make new cases for, and then I need to find a nice lamp so I can read out there even after it’s dark outside. It’s almost like a tiny little bonus room now. Motley loves it, he goes out there in the mornings to bask in the sun.
I picked a different fabric for the sofa, I was too impatient to wait for the one I had picked out on the internet to come to the stores. I think I’ll pick one or two of the colours from the pattern when I make the cushion cases.

I found my camera, mum and dad brought it up with them so technically they found it (they are here visiting and preparing a flat for sale). Sadly though, I don’t have nearly as many pictures as I thought I had, I think I took most pictures while visiting them with their camera. So, I patiently have to wait a little while longer to get those pictures on my laptop. I really am so disorganised, my whole life seems to be right now. I do however have a few pictures to share. Elsa has grown out of being a baby a long time ago, she’s two and a half now but it’s hard to remember since she is talking like a four or five year old. She tried my flip flops on and when I asked her if they were too big for her she said that they were just the right size for her.

She has grown into being as stubborn as I was when I was little, and still am. When I talk to her on the phone she asks me what I am doing, then she asks follow up questions as well. When I ask her what she is doing in return, she answers me so elaborate that I have no follow up questions to ask. I really love that girl, she is getting more and more fun.
Astrid is a really special little girl as well, she is so content, never cries. She just sits there inspecting the world. She is much bigger than Elsa was at that age and she has chunky little baby thighs. I’m looking forward to seeing more of her personality as she gets older.
Also, does anyone have any ideas on how to best sell a sofa? If I sell the sofa in the pictures I get the money. It’s made by my great granddad around 1930 and comes with a couple of armchairs as well. Should I go to an auction house or should I sell it on e-bay?
Sometimes it’s good to have parents moving from a big old house to a smaller modern house. Not only because it means that Caleb and I can have spa weekends by the lake with a sauna, outdoor and indoor jacuzzis and my parents’ food. For us it has also meant that we have become the owners of a family heirloom, made by my dad’s mum’s dad. He was a pretty successful carpenter, even making furniture for the Swedish Royal Court. So now my parents decided that it was about time to let this beautiful chandelier move on to the next generation.
The lamp shades are completely wrong for this lamp, both the style and the size, they are just temporary while we are looking for something better. Also, the thing that hides the connections needs to be attached properly as well, it looks kind of stupid like that, but oh well.
My mobile broadband is broken and I have lost my camera. Hopefully it’s (the camera) somewhere at mum and dad’s because that’s the only place I can think of that it might be. It’s very frustrating because I was going to upload some pictures to flickr and perhaps blog a couple of them.
Remember how I didn’t know what to do this autumn because all my courses were cancelled? Well, it seems like practical philosophy is what I’ll be entertaining my brain with this semester. I have already picked out the books I need from my mum’s bookshelf and am more or less ready to start. It’ll be an interesting semester, I think. Hopefully I won’t turn into my mum.
We went to Stockholm today to witness the naming of Astrid Ingeborg Elisabet. I made a cute little kimono as a present for the occasion. I haven’t seen Astrid for quite some time and just kind of assumed she was about the same size as her sister Elsa was at that age — how wrong I was! Elsa was a very tiny baby and Astrid is about double the weight. Hopefully it’ll fit anyway, I made it kind of big so that she’s have something to grow into. It can also be made longer, you can see where I have stitched the fold at the bottom.

I also got to see my sister and my little nephew Jonas, and of course also her husband Mike. I didn’t take any pictures at all today, but they’ll come visit next week so I’ll take pictures then. Kids surprise me sometimes, today Elsa came up to my brother while we were talking and asked “Dad, can I please have some cake?” no baby talk there, just very clear and easy to understand Swedish. She’s always been a very clever kid when it comes to talking, saying full sentences long before she was supposed to but it is kind of freaky when she talks like she was 6 years old, when she only is 2½. Then we have Johan friend’s girl who is almost 6 and was 4 last time I saw her. When I told her that I am Johan’s sister she explained to me that she knows exactly who I am because she remembers from last time. Blows my mind. And let’s not forget Joel, Naomi & Markus’s son aged 2, who recognises most car makes and some models. Caleb thinks there is something in the water.
Remember these fabrics? I went to look for them at Ikea in Gothenburg when we were but was told that they were sold out. Despondent I started looking for other fabrics that I could use instead, but decided that nothing was as nice as those two that I really wanted. I can be difficult like that; not willing to rethink. Instead I decided to go to a different Ikea at my parents instead, but no luck there either. This time I thought that I’d better make a really good effort in finding something different, but first I had to ask about it, just in case I had missed it. Apparently it’s so new that it hasn’t made it to the shops yet! I just wish they had made that a little bit clearer on the website, just to save me some emotional stress. This means that Caleb has an Ikea trip to look forward to when he gets back.
